HSC Volunteer Spotlight & June News

Princess O'Donnell is a Volunteer Coordinator Team Member and a Bay Area homeschooling mom to 3 boys, ages 10, 8, and 3.  She's been homeschooling since her eldest was in preschool. Her family have been members of HSC since 2017. HSC has been a wonderful community and resource for her family, and she says that she felt moved to support and give back to those who give so much time and effort to this community of ours.We couldn’t do what we do without the support of volunteers like Princess, and we want to thank her for all she does!

HSC News

Rise to meet this moment

As homeschoolers, Californians, and on the behalf of the Homeschool Association of California and its members, we offer condolences to the family of George Perry Floyd Junior, who was killed by police during an arrest in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. Since then, hundreds of thousands of protesters around the world have taken action to show their support and insistence on fair and equitable treatment for all Americans.

As board members of HSC, we’ve been inspired by our membership’s desire to educate themselves and their families about systemic inequalities in policing and more broadly about equity and inclusion. It’s been a painful and trying time for many HSC members, but we believe as a board, that we continue to be each other’s best resource for education, action and healing. Through the use of our website, social platforms, and upcoming conference, we can continue to support and help educate each other to work toward understanding and improving the systems that have impacted Mr. Floyd and others.

Safer at home

California was the first state in the nation to order all residents to stay at home on March 19. On May 25, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a partial reopening that continues to roll out on a county by county basis. We hope that our HSC community and the resources provided on our social media and website are helpful. We are here to comfort and support each other during these trying times and continue to provide access and support for homeschooling to all Californians. Here are some useful links from board members and other HSC social media participants.
