Volunteer Stars! Meet our Advertising Coordinator

Catharine Alvarez, HSC's Advertising Coordinator, homeschooled her two children (one is a senior and the other attends University of Portland) beginning in 2009. She has a part-time position with Johns Hopkins CTY Online editing the online AP Calculus courses, and is a private math tutor. Mathematics is her passion--she's a PhD--and she enjoys sharing that passion with others through the Math Wizard Facebook group she runs. She also volunteers with Safe Kids Alameda County as a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, Autism self-advocacy (she is autistic), and Coastal Cleanup. Her hobbies include rock climbing, cycling on the Bay Trail, and photography. Homeschooling was so wonderful for her family that she wanted to give back and volunteer for the community. We couldn’t do what we do without the support of volunteers like Catharine, and we want to thank her for all she does!
